A McDonogh Suit for Your Son to Wear?

Eustace S. Glascock, Class of 1879

Eustace Glascock was accepted for admittance in the 1874-75 school year. Five years later, he became the first McDonogh student accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy. Glascock’s poem, “The McDonogh Uniform,” first appeared in The Week on October 28, 1915. He was invited to read the poem at the dedication of Memorial Court in 1947. It continues to be part of the ceremony today. The line “we give something more than we take” has become a school motto.
